Why "Occupy Wall Street"?
- Many "Too Big To Fail" banks and Wall Street institutions have acted unethically, focused on often destructive profiteering while contributing little real value to businesses and communities. And when the theory of “self-correcting markets” could be tested, instead, Wall Street executives whined for bailout funds so they could award themselves massive bonuses for massive failure. By withholding business loans, the banks impeded recovery from the economic disaster they caused. Through foreclosure abuses and impeding Federal “underwater” mortgage assistance, the banks caused millions of Americans to unnecessarily lose their homes. These banks, along with Wall Street, need to be regulated (again).
- The right-wing Republicans (rwGOP) have abdicated their responsibility to serve America and its citizens, in favor of being slaves to their failed ideology and to Wall Street profiteers, who promote more deregulation.
- "The single most important thing we [Republican's] want to achieve", Senator McConnell stated in 2010, "is for President Obama to be a one-term president". This cynical and disrespectful myopia has prevented solving America's most critical problems, including high unemployment and reforming the Wall Street recklessness that caused it.
Congress is elected to represent the American People, not personal or corporate interests. It's long past time that U.S. Senators and Representatives uphold their oaths and work on behalf of the best interests of America and ALL of us, not just the greedy and irresponsible few.
How do we get Congress back on track? And how do we convince Congress to pass the legislation proposed by the Occupy Wall Street organization?
